Which Illinois police forces staff auxiliary officers
Of Illinois’ more than 900 police departments, only 77 employ auxiliary officers. Unlike everyday officers that require rigorous academy training, most auxiliary police are only required to complete a 40-hour firearm training course before they are authorized by a police department to carry a weapon. There are few other restrictions on how departments utilize them, although only about a half-dozen municipalities give them full authority to make arrests.
Departments are ordered by number of auxiliary officers, then by total officers.
